What is Teaching?

Who I am and what I think about being a teacher.

I am Rizqoh Fadila Ramadani, an English Language Teaching student from Sampoerna University Jakarta. This year is my last year in college. The lecturing in the campus and also many School Experience Programs that I have been doing never fails to help me learn so much about being a teacher. This is 2020 and a little more 2021 will come. So, what do I think about being a teacher?

I think this picture describes the Teacher profession really well: the sea. When you go to the sea and look far ahead, you will see no end, you will feel the air breeze, and even can see people get their living from it.

It is the same with being a teacher, you will need to always learn in your lifetime because those whom you teach will face different world from yours. By being a lifetime learner, teacher will be able to help prepare their students to be ready in their real world. Being a teacher also means becoming an air breeze to your students. Understanding their emotions, becoming their friends, and even listening to their concerns are also the roles of teacher. When they are demotivated in learning, you will need to be their friends who can listen to their stories well. When they are succeeding, you will need to be their mentor who are proud of them and praise them. Sounds easy? Apparently not. When we, teachers, are able to do those roles we will be able to help them reach their dreams or even help them get a living.

Teachers are definitely the sea! Teachers always give, but never expect to be paid back.
